Description[]
"I will learn to harvest raw materials needed for crafting." -- Everquest II Journal
Steps[]
You will receive a 12-slot meager harvesting bag from the NPC.
- Harvest the following from a Tier 1 Zone
- Note: Tier 1 zones are not Antonica or Commonlands. Try Greater Faydark, Frostfang Sea, Timorous Deep or Darklight Woods. Also Queen's Colony or the Overlord's Outpost (newbie isles).
- 3 severed elm from logs
- 3 roots from clusters of roots
- 3 tin clusters from ore-containing rock
- 3 lead clusters from rock nodes
- 3 sunfish from schools of fish
- 3 jumjum from a garden or shrub node
- 3 rawhide leather pelts from animal dens
- Return them to the instructor. You do not have to return to the same instructor that you accepted the quest from.
Rewards[]
- Disassembled Storage Box
- At least 82c
Notes[]
This quest does not award any experience (adventure or tradeskill).
Hints[]
If you plan to take up a tradeskill, gather extras of each harvest to save yourself the time and effort of traveling all the way back to this area to harvest.
The good news is that taking the next quest in this series, combined with the tradeskill tutorial that follows it will help you level very quickly through this Tier (level-range) of harvested materials. Gathering approximately double of each gets most players through the tutorial if they are successful each time they craft. It may take slightly more if you struggle with crafting though.
Journal Steps and Dialogue[]
Dialogue in this quest varies slightly depending on the NPC you accept the quest from.
- Tradeskill Tutorial Instructor (Vissa D'Dbth, Szinjss X'Vemtor, Rozokal Niba'mok, Ikile Harmonia, Glin Hammerhelm, or Jason Merrytoe): "Hello, friend! I'm here to teach interested people a little bit about how to harvest crafting materials, and how to craft tradeskilled items. Are you interested?
- Player Character: "Yes please, I don't know much about that stuff."
- Tradeskill Tutorial Instructor: "Harvesting resources tends to be segregated by areas - for example, you'll be able to harvest items (often also called nodes) for making equipment for level 1-9 adventurers, in the same areas where you'll find level 1-9 adventurers hunting. There are seven types of harvestable item: wood, roots, ore, soft metal, animal dens, shrubs, and fish. I'd like you to get a few harvests from each type of harvestable item."
- Player Character: "I'll get right on it."
- OR -
- Harvesting and Collections Instructor (Ernest Ironthumb, Trainer Zaktar D'Zhe'Virae, Trainer Charkin Myli'Dok, Trainer Hawk Dunlop, or Calla Badgerbane): "I am able to answer any questions you have about collections or harvesting."
- Player Character: "I'd like to learn about harvesting."
- Harvesting and Collections Instructor: "Harvestables are natural resources that can be found around most parts of the outdoors. You have harvesting skills that allow you to collect them. These can be seen by opening your Character window (C), clicking on the Skills tab, and selecting the General skills. Rocks increase mining, logs increase foresting, dens increase trapping, fish increase fishing, and shrubs increase gathering."
- Player Character: "What are harvestables used for?"
- Harvesting and Collections Instructor: "The items found through harvesting are the basic building blocks of tradeskills. They cannot be sold to vendors, but they can be traded or sold to other players who need them for their respective professions. Some components that can be found through harvesting are very rare and can be worth quite a bit of money to tradeskillers."
- Player Character: "Why do I need to increase my harvesting skills?"
- Harvesting and Collections Instructor: "The skill required to harvest in a given area increases along with the difficulty of the area. If you find that you are unable to harvest in an area you should return to a less difficult area and practice."
- Player Character: "Thanks for the information."
- OR -
- Harvest and Collections Diva (Trainer Eivarra Laceleaf): "Don't be shy! Come closer, m'dear, and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about collections or harvesting!"
- Player Character: "I'd like to learn about harvesting."
- Harvest and Collections Diva: "Harvestables come in five forms, each tied to its own respective skill. These skills can be seen by opening your character window by pressing the C key, clicking on the Skills tab and selecting your General skills. Rocks increase mining, logs increase foresting, dens increase trapping, fish increase fishing, and plants increase gathering."

I must harvest some crafting supplies in a nearby low-risk adventure area. Harvest nodes can generally be found on the ground in most outdoor adventure regions. Harvest some elm lumber. Harvest some roots. Mine some tin clusters. Mine some lead clusters. Fish up some sunfish. Harvest jumjum from a shrub or garden. Trap some rawhide pelts from an animal den.
I have harvested some elm lumber. I have gathered some roots. I have mined some tin clusters. I have harvested some lead clusters. I have harvested some sunfish. I have gathered some jumjum. I have trapped a number of pelts. I harvested some crafting supplies. I must return to the trainer with the harvested items.
- Tradeskill Tutorial Instructor: "Excellent work learning about harvesting! As a reward, allow me to offer you this box for storing harvesting items. It's quite heavy, so I suggest you put it in your bank rather than carrying it, but it has plenty of storage room for harvests."
- Player Character: "Thank you."
I returned to the trainer with the harvests. I returned to the trainer to show what I learned.
I have learned how to harvest raw materials needed for crafting.
