Prerequisites

• You must be at least level 20 to receive this quest.

Steps

1. Harvest 15 iron clusters and 15 severed maple.
   • Both harvesting nodes can an be found in Antonica, the same zone as the quest giver.
   • Must be harvested by the quester.
     • If accidentally deleted, the player may replace them at the broker and still get credit.
   • If player is on the quest, A Gathering Obsession, Part II, this step will not update until the player has harvested the required items for A Gathering Obsession, Part II.
2. Return to Hwal Rucksif with the harvested items in your inventory.
3. Venture to the following three locations and collect the required items: (updates are group updates, not objects)
   • Blackburrow: a piece of tyranium ore from a Sabertooth miner ( 32, 0, -42 ) Copy/waypoint 32, 0, -42 or a Sabertooth excavator ( 32, 2, -28 ) Copy/waypoint 32, 2, -28.
   • Stormhold: a piece of wood from a caveroot horror ( 3, -26, -122 ) Copy/waypoint 3, -26, -122. (see monster page for more info)
   • Thundering Steppes: the hide of Bloodtalon at around ( 1027, 8, 415 ) Copy/waypoint 1027, 8, 415. (see monster page for more info)
4. Return to Hwal Rucksif.
5. Return to Blackburrow and obtain beer from the The Blackburrow Brewery at ( 21, -40, 61 ) Copy/waypoint 21, -40, 61 on Level III.
   • While there are three entrances to Blackburrow from Antonica, the closest entrance to the Brewery is the "secret" entrance at ( -1111, -33, 1061 ) Copy/waypoint -1111, -33, 1061. Getting to this entrance requires a short underwater swim at a small cave ( -1023, -41, 1177 ) Copy/waypoint -1023, -41, 1177. Once inside Blackburrow, follow the tunnel and just as it opens up you'll see some brown kegs stacked three-high. Select the top keg for the update.
6. Return to Hwal Rucksif.
7. Travel to The Bells of Vhalen in Antonica at ( -1300, 39, 47 ) Copy/waypoint -1300, 39, 47  to release Hwal's grandfather from the family curse. Click the manhole cover on the floor of the tower to enter a one-room instance called Garanel's Resting Place whose sole occupant is the ghost of Garanel Rucksif.
8. Return to Hwal Rucksif.
9. Obtain two items from the The Thundering Steppes:
   • Leather from a mature antelope, found around ( 74, -2, 1245 ) Copy/waypoint 74, -2, 1245 , ( 184, 1, 1330 ) Copy/waypoint 184, 1, 1330 or ( 406, 12, -509 ) Copy/waypoint 406, 12, -509.
     • Most of the monsters at these locations place-hold for each other, so if a mature antelope isn't up, then keep clearing creatures in these areas and one will eventually spawn.
   • A steel bar from a Firerock scout, found around ( 895, -1, 531 ) Copy/waypoint 895, -1, 531, ( 300, -1, 679 ) Copy/waypoint 300, -1, 679 or ( 913, -1, 541 ) Copy/waypoint 913, -0.99, 541.
10. Take the supplies to Minty Frostbeard in The Village of Thundermist in The Thundering Steppes at ( 597, 2, -145 ) Copy/waypoint 597, 2, -145 .
11. Return to Minty Frostbeard one Norrathian day later (72 minutes real-time) to retrieve the boots.
    • Even after a Norrathian day expires, the player may need to rezone or relog to get Minty to update her quest status.
12. Return to Hwal Rucksif, who will take the new boots and give you his old boots as a reward.

Notes

• The Dwarven Work Boots are required for the quest Reinforcing a Relic.
• Watchman Loxley and Watchman Haggerty both guard the Keep of the Ardent Needle and will attack low-level Evil-aligned players who attempt to get near the keep.
