Journal Steps and Dialogue[]

I need to find the rest of this Tunarian parchment so that I can solve its mystery. Search some Tunarian protectors for more of these parchment scraps.

I've searched the Tunarian protectors. I must examine the parchment scraps.

I've examined the parchment. Search the Tunarian bearmasters for more of these parchment scraps.

I've searched the Tunarian bearmasters. I must examine the parchment scraps.

I've examined the parchment. Charles Arker knows more about this than he's led me to believe. I'll see what he has to say about things now.

  • Charles Arker: What's that? You found more of the parchment?"
  • Player Character: "Yes, but something about it puzzles me."
  • Charles Arker: "I can't speak of it here. It is very important that we draw no attention to ourselves. Meet me in the Wilderwood. There's a shallow alcove known as "the Nook" beyond the trees, along the northern wall."
  • Player Character: "All right. I'll see you there.

Charles Arker said he will explain everything to me, but away from the encampment where we might be overheard. Meet Charles Arker at the Nook, east of the center of the Wilderwood.

  • Charles Arker: "That note...do you have all of it?"
  • Player Character: "Except for the pieces I gave you earlier."
  • Charles Arker: "Good. I wrote this note -- that's probably what puzzled you. It contained a hidden message to Laena. I was...planning to meet her secretly. Then I realized how foolish that would be, but I had already sent her the note."
  • Player Character: "Aha! So you killed her."
  • Charles Arker: "By the Overlord, no! I waited for her here, as pre-arranged. She did not come and the next thing you know, one of the other men gave me part of the note and told me to investigate the Tunarians. I couldn't tell if he knew my secret or not."
  • Player Character: "So you killed him?"
  • Charles Arker: "What is it with you and killing? No! I was grateful for the chance to find the rest of my note and destroy it before anyone else realized I had signed it! I thought Laena might still have the rest of it...and you proved that she at least had some of it still."
  • Player Character: "Then who killed Laena?"
  • Charles Arker: "Perhaps a jealous lover, or maybe she was torn apart by the wilderbears. You must keep this secret. My family will never understand the...indiscretion...I showed. Nothing happened between Laena and me, so it's best forgotten. Get rid of these scraps for me. I must go back before I'm missed."

Charles Arker once again needs me to take care of something for him. I'll get rid of the parchment by burning it in the firepit at Whizratchet's Bank.

You toss the parchment scraps into the flames. Their edges curl, blacken and finally turn to ashes.

I've destroyed the evidence of Charles Arker's indiscretion. I've disposed of the last bits of that note.

The "Tunarian Plot" turned out to be nothing more than Charles Arker ineptly arranging a meeting with that wood elf, Laena. He confessed to me that he'd only been trying to get back all the pieces of this note before word got back to his family. I helped him cover his tracks by destroying all the parchment pieces we gathered.
