Census bot run / Support with creating items

I wrote and advancing a program to generate nearly all items with the information census.
I managed to sort out the 23657 double item names (1 name atleast 2 items) from census.
The "big" bot run has started.

  1. Round1
    1. Round1 (a) - Unique item names: I run em in a batch of 2.000 articles in 2 runs. (~137.000 articles = 69 batch runs)
      1. "updating article" - I compare the current article with my generated and keep some of the Information of the "old" article. iname, iname2, obtain, set (if it's not an actual set)
      2. "adding articles" - every article that is not there get's added automatically without watching it (i check it once the whole batch is done)
    2. Round1 (b) - All the new and changed items
      • When i saw it, i knew it would be hard .. close to impossible to repeat round 1a any time near. So i changed my update strategie
        • i check the item's i know vs the ones on census "frequently" and add the new items (if you noticed all new items from Pop expansion that are on census, are on the wiki as well)
        • i download every item from census ~every 2weeks and add reparse all of them
          • Also checking for rename of items and moving them semi automatic
          • for example with PoP release 9.000 items got changed
          • for example with Regin of Shadows release ~120.000 items got changed
    3. Round1 (c) - Collections I updated the ones from Pop expansion .. if i find the time i'll update all the other Collections as well .. i might rethink the "new" look as well
  2. Round2 - Double item names: will see how i do them , but prolly in the update and adding way as well + move items before i do that

Sorted points:

  • Template:Flags checks the flags and sorts them automatically depenting if the text is found in the input
  • I use my database to compare old names with new names and generate a list to mass rename items with a fandom plugin
  • Finding quest names that are not on census
  • "semi" Full automatic item article update
    • iname, iname2, subtype and set get's copied from old article to new one
    • "no-salvage" get's copied from old article to new one
    • Any information that comes after the line with '}}' get's copied to the new article
    • obtain
      • get's copied when no obtain is known
      • need to copy when an obtain way is known that is not on census (Merchant sells it, monster drop and so on)
        • works "Semi" full automatic

Open points:

  • The Flag "no-salvage" can't be parsed, because census doesn't show that kind of information.
  • Sorting of classes that are visible on items (not started yet)
    • possible best way to do it, is the same approah as with the flags. A template checks the input and sorts the classes in the right order.
    • Unsure if categoryies are effected by it or not. It will need some testing and is prolly a longer template.

Never the less .. if you missing items or multiple items that are linked on a article. Please feel free to ask me for help on my talk page or place the {{wikify|item}} on top of the article. I will upload those items for you or visit my homepage to search the item and copy/paste it to the article.
My homepage allows to search for the preparsed articles:

  • Item - excluded Spell Scrolls and coin purses
  • Collection
  • Achievements
  • not yet supported:
    • Spells - i can parse each spell version, but not the combined version as they shown on the wiki.

Note: Information that doesn't show on census:

  • Which Merchant sells which item nor the price
  • Which item drops from which mob .. some information is there but it seems to be only coins and vendor trash

  • 11/20/2006 NEW FIELD purpose added. Defines the reason for the NPC. Possible types are: Quest, Ecology, Lore, etc. If the NPC has a purpose under its name (like <Provisioner>, <Dismal Rage Priest>, <Broker>, etc.) use that WITHOUT the <> brackets! ONE exception to this is the Prophets; use purpose=Prophet. See Category:NPC Types for all currently defined purpose categories. Default value if purpose is undefined or blank is "Quest" as there are far more of them than any other type, and Quest NPCs are the ones our users are gonna input the most.

Parameters

iname Name of Image to display at right, default is the Page Name + .jpg
idesc caption for the image
purpose Defines the reason for the NPC. Possible types are: Quest, Ecology, Lore, Mender, Banker, City Task, etc. If the NPC has a purpose under its name (like <Provisioner>, <Dismal Rage Priest>, <Broker>, etc.) use that WITHOUT the <> brackets! ONE exception to this is the Prophets; use purpose=Prophet. See Category:NPC Types for all currently defined purpose categories. Default value if purpose is undefined or blank is "Quest".
faction Displayed after purpose, in ()'s. Builds category links for <faction> (Faction) and <faction> NPCs. MOST useful for NPCs whose purpose is City Task. See also: Category:Factions
race Monster Race. If left blank NO link will be made for race category, if multiple/various, use *
class Mercenary by Class only needed when the purpose is "Mercenary"
zone Name of the zone this NPC can be found in. See also: Category:Zones
patch Expansion, Adventure Pack or LU# this monster was introduced in. (Default:Shattered Lands). See also: Category:Updates and it's sub-categories.
location Description of where this NPC can be found. Include links as needed.
mapref the /loc co-ordinates where this NPC can most often be found. Close is good enough. Do not surround with ()'s
uid EQ2MAP's Unique ID
altname alternate name, use when PAGENAME does not match what should be searched by. Replace spaces with underscores or link will break!
nozplink If not blank no category links involving purpose will be created.
