Journal Steps and Dialogue[]

  • Merchant Melilah: "Did you want to earn a little commission on a job for me?"
  • Player Character: "That depends."
  • Merchant Melilah: "I need to send a note to my sister Fallulah. She's just over there near the bank."
  • Player Character: "Then why don't you go yourself?"
  • Merchant Melilah: "Because we're not SPEAKING with each other! Ooooh....she makes me SO angry! Just thinking about what she said...but...okay...I'm calmer now. Anyway, if I didn't need to contact her, I wouldn't, but it can't be avoided."
  • Player Character: "You want me to take a note to her so you don't have to speak to her yourself?"
  • Merchant Melilah: "Exactly. Like I said, a little commission for an easy job. I'd really appreciate it."
  • Player Character: "Well. Okay."

Merchant Melilah asked me to deliver a note to her sister Fallulah. Merchant Fallulah is located near Kelethin's First Regional Bank.

  • Merchant Fallulah: "Hello."
  • Player Character: "Your sister Melilah asked me..."
  • Merchant Fallulah: "Oh, she did, did she? Well, if she wants to talk to me, she can jolly well come down here off her high...platform...and do so herself!"
  • Player Character: "She just wanted me to..."
  • Merchant Fallulah: "Oh, I'm not angry with you! I'm angry with HER! Seasons go by without so much as a "how're you doing" and then she sends a complete STRANGER to me with a note. A NOTE!"
  • Player Character: "Do you want to see it?"
  • Merchant Fallulah: "No. Take it away. You can tell her no matter what excuses she makes, I want the clock. Got it?"
  • Player Character: "I'll let her know."

I've located Merchant Fallulah. I've spoken with Fallulah. Fallulah refused to accept the note. there goes my little commission. I need to return to Merchant Melilah on the platform just above Kelethin First Regional Bank.

  • Merchant Melilah: "Have you spoken with HER yet?"
  • Player Character: "Yes. She asked me to tell you..."
  • Merchant Melilah: "How DARE she presume to talk to me! Even if it's only through you! I have a good mind to...calm...deep breaths...What did she have to say?"
  • Player Character: "She said to tell you that she "wants the clock" and that you'll know what that means."
  • Merchant Melilah: "She can't HAVE the clock. It's MINE! I can't BELIEVE how grasping and conniving..."
  • Player Character: "Er, can I ask you what's going on between the two of you?"
  • Merchant Melilah: "You still have the note? Go ahead and read it. It explains everything."
  • Player Character: "Um, okay."

I've spoken with Melilah. Merchant Melilah told me to read the note she's sent to Fallulah so I could understand what was going on.

The note is written in bold, dark strokes on a thick piece of parchment. The wax seal is broken, evidently from the pressure of a very heavy hand. Dear Sister, I know you want your share of our father's estate. You've never once grieved with me for our loss and instead just came after me with both hands out for whatever you could get. I can't believe that we were raised in the same home! It will be a cold day in Lavastorm before you get anything from me.

I've read Melilah's note. It could be that Merchant Melilah and her sister are grieving for their father. Perhaps I can get the sisters to see things a different way.

  • Merchant Melilah: "Well?"
  • Player Character: "You two are fighting over your father's estate?"
  • Merchant Melilah: "I'm not fighting, SHE'S fighting. All I ever hear from her is, "I want this," or "I want that." She's never ONCE asked me how I was feeling, or said anything about how much work it's been for me to handle things."
  • Player Character: "Did you tell her how you felt?"
  • Merchant Melilah: "It's obvious, isn't it?"
  • Player Character: "Maybe. But folks show sadness in different ways. Maybe her way is different than yours."
  • Merchant Melilah: "Hrmph. Maybe. She always did have it easier than me. Fallulah was daddy's favorite. She didn't have to set up shop until he passed away, and then she was always pestering me about how to do this and how to do that."
  • Player Character: "She needs you."
  • Merchant Melilah: "I hadn't really thought of it that way. Maybe I have misjudged her. I tell you what. Let me take back that note and write a different one. Would you take this one to her instead?"
  • Player Character: "Sure."
  • Merchant Melilah: "And...thank you. You helped me look at things a different way."
  • Player Character: "Glad I could help."

I've spoken with Melilah. I've gotten Melilah to see her sister from a different perspective. Hopefully, they'll be able to patch up their differences. Merchant Melilah gave me a different note to take to her sister Fallulah. Hopefully, it's one that will reconcile the sisters to each other. I must take Melilah's new note to her sister Fallulah at her shop near the Kelethin First Regional Bank.

  • Merchant Fallulah: "Oh. It's you again. Listen, I'm sorry about my outburst earlier."
  • Player Character: "Do you want to talk about it?"
  • Merchant Fallulah: "It's just...our father died and he was the last family Melilah and I had in Kelethin, except for each other. I've never had to run the shop before and it's been really frustrating to me."
  • Player Character: "That's what I thought. Melilah wants to start over with you."
  • Merchant Fallulah: "She does? I could really use the help! I mean... I miss her. And yes, I could use the help. She's always had a head for business. And I don't want the clock, I just want to be friends with her again."
  • Player Character: "I think you two are overdue for a long, sisterly talk."
  • Merchant Fallulah: "Poor Melilah,..all this time, I misjudged her. Thank you so much for getting us to see things straight. May Tunare's blessings be upon you!"
  • Player Character: "Good luck with your business...and your sister!"

I've spoken with Fallulah. Next stop -- world peace!

Instead of merely delivering messages from one sister to another, I found myself embroiled in a bitter family feud. Fortunately, I got them to agree to start talking to each other rather than sending messages back and forth. We'll see how well that works.
