Strategy[]
The Overking is the final mob in the Temple of Korsha. Make sure the assassins are cleared out of the pools before engaging him or they will join the fight. Use elemental resist gear if you are low, and have the Troubador run Elemental Chorus. The off-tank group should be a good AoE setup. For example a Paladin with amends on a warlock, a Shadowknight or Berserker.
The main tank group can use a third healer to deal with the incredible amount of curing required. Ideal setup for your first time would be Guardian, Templar, Defiler, Warden, Coercer, Dirge. Keeping this group cured is important due to the large amount of stun/stifles caused by the Mentalist adds. Having your healers set up /tell macros to assigned casters to cure them is a good idea also.
Due to the fact the main tank will be frequently taunted off the Overking, it is a good idea to make a target macro that you can keep clicking to get your target back: /target Selrach
Everyone should setup just before the two pillars. The fight will start with the tank running to the throne and holding the Overking there. The rest of the raid goes into a tight group directly in the middle of the two pillars and starts casting AoEs. The off-tank should pull the adds to the raid and hold them there so AOEs have maximum effect, keeping them away from the main tank.
Once the first set of adds are dead you will get a continuous spawn of weaker adds that have stunning casters called Mentalists. When these waves spawn, kill down the Mentalists first. Once you have the waves under control, you can assign more single target damage to attack the Overking with the main tank. Figuring out just the right number of people you can take off the adds and put on the Overking will speed this fight up.
During the fight two AoEs will go off. One is called Concusive Blast. It is magic based, hits every 52 seconds, and is fairly weak. The AoE of concern is the heat based one that hits every 30 seconds. This is the reason the Overking must be kept away from the raid and using a tank with good heat resists like a Guardian helps on the healing.
Once things are under control and the Overking is at about 80% health, the tank should move the Overking from the throne past the pillars. Wait for the mentalists to be dead from the current set of adds, and for the heat AoE to have gone off. Once the heat DoT has been cured and there are only a couple adds up, pull the Overking through the raid force and onto the other side. Thought snap is useful here.
The tank should be far enough from the raid that the heat AoE doesn't do much damage to them. Don't pull against the wall though, you need to be in the center of the left area so when the flame adds come they don't all come around the side.
Once you get him to 58% he is going to start speaking. At this point make sure the person who has the Wand of Intervention from Pawbuster is cured of all effects so they can use the wand on the Overking. This will disable his brutal AoE. The tank should use any damage prevention (such as Tower of Stone) at this point, because the Overking will cast an additional AoE.
The Overking is now upset and will begin calling in the flames from the fire pots around his throne to come help him. If they reach the Overking he gets to do his AoE again which will likely kill everyone. If you target the flames directly without them getting far enough away from the throne area, they will port you to the Overking and he will kill you. The trick to this is to let them funnel past the pillars to the raid force and use blue AoEs to destroy the flames without directly targeting them.
There will be a couple of flames that sneak around the pillars on the outer sides. Call these and have a brig or some other class assigned to go and kill them. Have a few AoE classes continue to kill the flames, and the rest of the raid can focus DPS on the Overking.
Notes[]
- Like most of the Kunark raid bosses, he will heal for 2% of maximum health for each player who dies.
- The adds are heroic, so stuns, stifles and roots all work.
- Never revive during the fight, you will break the encounter due to the leash.
- At level 100+ (mentored to 80) you can kill Overking before he casts his AoE, and do not need the Wand of Intervention.
This strategy is largely based on an EQ-Raiders forum post.
