Mariner's Bells are now used for intra-city transportation in EverQuest II for the cities of Qeynos and Freeport. The first two sections here explain the major changes made starting in 2010. All other player-inhabitable cities use a local teleportation system, described in the Other Cities sction.

2010 Travel Updates[]

The look and function of these bells was significantly altered in 2010. For the official Community News post from the EQ2 team, see the Halas Reborn-Travel Revamp announcement at: https://www.everquest2.com/news/imported-eq2-enus-3545

  • The bells that were once located on the docks of several zones, like Nektulos Forest, have now been replaced with streamlined travel using the Globe of Swift Travel. The globe now provides access to the same map locations, regardless of the zone in which it's found. There are a few restrictions when using the globe based on your home city's alignment, so have a look at that page.

Overview[]

Why they were updated
As more and more zones were added to Norrath, the more time consuming and confusing travel became. In addition, both the The City of Freeport and Qeynos were significantly revamped and re-launched in recent years with two Live Updates. Other cities like Gorowyn, Kelethin, and Neriak have had changes over the years and though they didn't use bells, they are briefly covered the Other Cities section.

  • Freeport is all one zone without any need to zone into each area (North, West. etc.), but the Mariner's Bells can be used to travel to each region of the city quickly.
  • All of the "slums" like Beggars Court, are now only used for quests.
Player homes in the slums have all been moved to The Jade Tiger's Den.
  • You can go directly to the Commonlands dock using the mariner's bell within Freeport.
  • The older, low-level zones like Sunken City can still be accessed using the bells.
  • A Mariner's Bell for Freeport still exists in the Commonlands. It's on the right side of dock, but only those of "evil" alignment will see the internal city options on their maps. Those of "good" alignment can only go to the lower level, Additional Locations (zones) listed for each city below.
  • Qeynos is now consolidated into two zones, comprised of Qeynos Province District (the Harbor and Elddar Grove regions) and the Capital District (the North and South regions), but the Mariner's Bells can be used to travel between the two city zones quickly.
Player homes in the suburbs have all been moved to Lion's Mane Inn.
  • You can go directly to Antonica using the mariner's bell in Qeynos.
  • All of the small low level adventure zones, like Oakmyst Forest can still be accessed by the bells.
  • A Mariner's Bell for Qeynos still exists in the Antonica. It's on the right side of dock, but only those of "good" alignment will see the internal city options on their maps. Those of "evil" alignment can only go to the lower level, Additional Locations (zones) listed for each city below.
  • As long as you share the alignment of the city you are in, you can use these bells in Qeynos ("good") and Freeport ("evil") to travel to each region. For example, if you are from Neriak (an "evil" city) you can use the bells in Freeport and if you are from New Halas (a "good" city) you can use the bells in Qeynos. Those of the opposite alignments must use the city sewer systems, Down Below and Thieves Way, to sneak into the cities, explained at the end in the Sneaking In section below.

Qeynos Bell Locations[]

Mariners Bell Map Qeynos

In the past, Qeynos had several districts. Both Qeynos Hardbor and Elddar Grove now comprise one zone called Qeynos Province District. South and North Qeynos are now combined into Qeynos Capital District. The old zones are now more like regions within the two updated zones. When in one of the two updated zones, there is no need for the bell. To pass from the Province District to the Capital you can use a bell or the old gates if you'd like.

Additional Qeynos Locations[]

The following are all low level adventure zones that can be accessed from the Mariner's Bell for Qeynos.

Sneaking In[]

  • Sneaking into cities can be fun; you can make a surprise visit to a friend's house, role play, or poke the guards for entertainment.
  • It's useful if you're in a guild has a T1 or T2 Hall in a city that's not friendly to those of your alignment.
  • It's useful if you want to go to another player's home to buy an expensive item and avoid the broker fees (a mark up as high as 40% in many cases) and you don't have a character of the same alignment as the city the seller's home is located in.
  • And (in rare cases) necessary for some quests.
If you want to get around "the sneak" you can ask a friend with Call of the Veteran to get you in, but because that's not always possible and sneaking can be fun, the sneak routes are described here. In addition, if you have access a house with a special portal you can possibly get into other cities too. (This can NOT be done via the Housing Leaderboard, as it will return you to the location you were in when you used The Leaderboard to enter the house, even if you click on the door to exit.)

When you reach the zone you want to sneak into, the guards tend to be in the 50+ level range and they are either Heroic or Epic. If you're below that level, don't dash out into the open immediately. If you wait a bit, you'll notice they all have a roaming pattern that is fairly predicable.

If a guard (or several) kills you, you'll revive at the gate in Commonlands (Freeport) or Antonica (near the Qeynos Province District gate)
  • Because you may need to sneak into Freeport or Qeynos without the help of a friend or you may not have any houses with portals, the route to sneak into Freeport and Qyenos is covered below.

For Evil Characters: The Qeynos Sneak[]

If you're from Freeport, Neriak, or Gorowyn you must sneak into Qeynos using the sewer systems. This is broken down into two phases; the first will get you to the Down Below. Then the second is your choice, depending on the location you are trying to reach.
Phase one, to get to the Down Below

  1. First, take the Globe of Swift Travel to the dock of Antonica.
  2. Once in Antonica, take the Qeynos bell on the right to Peat bog.
  3. Once in the Peat Bog, go to {Loc|582|33|507} and click on the sewer grate to Vermin's Snye. You'll be in a round pool of water when you zone in and it has two grates.
  4. Place you mouse over them to make sure you choose the grate to Down Below.
  5. Once in the Down Below you'll see a narrow water stream in front of you, split in two directions. Depending on why you're sneaking in you will use one of two grates to get into different areas of Qeynos. See the next series of steps below, based on your goal.

Choose one of the following for phase two of The Sneak

If you are trying to get the South region of The Qeynos Capilal District, in order to go to a "good" T2 guild hall or to player housing:

  1. Go forward, following the narrow water stream to the right until you reach the grates at ( -83, -0, -82 ) Copy.
  2. Turn to your left and click on the grate to zone into the South Qeynos region. When you zone in, you'll be safely behind the stable. Watch the roaming patterns of the guards until you know it's safe and you can either:
  3. Make a mad dash for the T2 hall door at ( 483, -11, 112 ) Copy or sneak around various building to reach any of the homes in the South Qeynos region of the Qeynos Capital District.

If you are trying to get to the North region of The Qeynos Capital District, in order to go to a "good" T1 guild hall or player housing:

  1. Go forward, following the narrow water stream to the left until you reach the grates at ( -101, -0, -105 ) Copy.
  2. Turn to the grate on the right and click on it to zone into the North Qeynos region. When you zone in, you'll be in a far off corner near a wall. Watch the roaming patterns of the guards until you know it's safe and you can either:
  3. Make a mad dash straight ahead to to the back of the T1 guild hall building; the ground gives you cover because it dips below the line-of-site for the guards; from there you can sneak to the front of the building at ( 331, -21, 5 ) Copy or turn slightly to the right and head for the only housing in this region of the zone in Irontoe's East352, 21, 144 ) Copy.

For the adventurous
More Qeynos Loactions
The following locations and more can be reached using the first phase of trip to the Down Below as described above; South and North were covered for their vital guild hall locations. The sewer system is vast and many grates can be accessed. Have a sneak for fun and rack up the discovery XP while you do by going to these areas of the Province District of Qeynos:

Qeynos Harbor (in the Province District) and get to Fish's Ale House (it has player housing) with very little risk of being caught by guards if you're over level 45, since the majority in the zone are about 35 and will be grey cons (and not bother attacking you).
Elddar Grove and just enjoy the view. It's a lovely and like the Harbor, the guards will be grey if you are 45 or over in most spots.

For Good Characters: The Freeport Sneak[]

If you're from Qeynos, Kelethin, or New Halas you must sneak into Freeport using the sewer system. This is broken down into two phases; the first will get you to the Thieves Way. Then the second is your choice, depending on the location you are trying to reach.
'Phase one, to get to the Thieves Way

  1. First, take the Globe of Swift Travel to the dock of Commonlands .
  2. From the dock, travel to the area just outside of the West Freeport gate at ( -1252, -84, 120 ) Copy and click on the entrance for Thieves Way. All of the grates that will take you into Freeport are in a single room. Depending on your where you want to go, you will choose one of two grates to use as described below.

Choose one pf the following for phase two of The Sneak

If you are trying to get to the South region in The City of Freeport, in order to go to an "evil" T1 guild hall or player housing

  1. Once you've zoned into Thieves Way, turn to your right. After you have turned, the grate to go into South Freeport will be straight ahead at ( -112, 2, 104 ) Copy. When you zone into South Freeport you will be safely hidden by a wall.
  2. If you are a low level, watch the roaming patterns of the guards that are level 35-44 Heroics. Freeport is not a flat terrian, so the next two steps are broken down to describe what you'll see/how you'll get to the T1 guild hall. Since all guards can't be seen for the zone-in point pay attention for roamers during the next two steps.
  3. First go up 4 sets of stairs. These stairs wrap back on each other, but run in a straight line for each set.
  4. You'll now be at the bottom of stairs that are split into two sets, that are curved (not quite a spiral).
  5. When you reach the top, go to the guild hall door at ( -25, -7, 197 ) Copy; on your way here, you passed several different housing areas too, including the entrance to Prestige Housing at ( -112, -18, 270 ) Copy

If you are trying to get to North region in The City of Freeport, in order to go to an "evil" T2 guild hall or player housing

  1. Once you've zoned into Thieves Way, turn only very slightly north. You'll see a large sculpture/boiler in front of you and the grate to enter North Freeport is just behind it at ( -124, 1, 51 ) Copy.
  2. When you zone into North Freeport, you'll be hidden in a corner, out of the guard's line-of-sight.
  3. If you are low level, watch the roaming patterns of the guards that are level 46 Heroics.
  4. The good news is, it's a very short jaunt to the T2 guild hall door at ( -16, -19, -261 ) Copy. It's also easy to get to the player housing from here; head past the large anchor statue at ( -75, -20, -269 ) Copy and jump down to the next level to get to Integrity Road; Housing at Compassion Road is on the next level down.

For the adventurous
More Freeport Locations
If you're feeling adventurous and want exploration XP, you can reach almost any location in Freeport if you're careful. The highest level roamers in the zone are 100 Heroic guards. If you are trying to get the The Jade Tiger's Den you have two options.

  1. You can use the sneak for North Freeport above and it's a fairly quick job over if you following the curved road up and past the Temple of War, but it does mean getting past guards with levels from 40-49 Heroic.
  2. Another option is use the East Freeport grate in Thieves Way; you'll zone in safely tucked behind a cluster of building and the roaming guards here are 29 Heroics, but you can just around to face in the direction of the sea, jump down to the road below and run up the stairway (an enclosed spiral) to your left to reach the Jade Tiger.

Other Cities[]

City Teleportation Pads All

Top row: Neriak and Kelethin's teleoprt pads. Bottom: the teleport pad style for Gorowyn.

Rather than using a bell system to travel within Gorowyn, Kelethin, or Neriak a teleport system is used.

  • In Gorowyn there are only two teleport locations. Once is at the bottom of the ramp that goes up to the city and it takes you to the highest point, near the broker, banker, player housing and the T1 guild hall located there. All you have to do to use it, is run over it.
  • In Kelethin, several teleoprters are found on different platforms around the city. You must right click on them to open a map and choose a destination inside of Kelethin.
  • Neriak has also has several teleport locations, some of which are inside of buildings. It's no longer necessary to do the quest to unlock their use. You must right click on them to use them.
  • Due to the design of New Halas, there is no need for bells or teleportation pads to get around.
It's not necessary to sneak into Gorowyn or New Halas; while they are technically "evil" and "good", they tolerate those from all cities. Neriak is a closed city to anyone who's "good", so the only way to reach it is to travel to a friend who has Call of the Veteran or to use a housing portal to get into a Neriak home.
