High above the desert floor, Maj'Dul rises from atop a high plateau in a series of terraces.

Maj'Dul is the contested city of the Dervish people. Perched atop a mesa of the northern half of the Desert of Ro, this city walks the edge of lawlessness and anarchy at all times. Only through the mysterious power of Mudeef, Vizier of the Tower of the Moon and the Sha'ir can any semblance of peace be maintained.

Lore[]

The sole major city remaining after The Shattering, Maj'Dul was originally a fortress for Ahkari, the first Dervish sultan. As he gathered the various tribes of Dervin under his banner, Maj'Dul slowly became the center of Dervin activity and, consequently, a city full of intrigue and danger.

It is rumored that Ahkari went insane and leapt from the palace walls to his death. Akhari's death was the event that led to the formation of The Courts of Maj'Dul and to the eventual decline of the Dervish empire. After his death, Ahkari's sons could not agree on who should lead the empire, so they formed the Courts and ruled their own individual followers.

The city has for decades been the victim of the constant conflict between the three factions that seek to rule it. The streets of the city divide the lower plateaus into faction-based areas of control. While open war is outlawed, due to a self-preserving agreement between the Courts, a thick web of assassination, treachery and crime binds the citizens of the city together. - Partially from The Desert Regions and City of Maj'Dul

The Courts of Maj'Dul[]

There are three competing Courts in Maj'Dul: The Court of the Blades, The Court of the Coin and The Court of Truth. These courts, led by the grandsons of the former sultan, vie for control over the streets of the city. This causes a fluctuating guard presence throughout the zone, making movement through the city difficult at times.

See Court of the Blades Timeline, Court of the Coin Timeline, or Court of Truth Timeline for more information.

Geography[]

To get to Maj'Dul you must use a Globe of Swift Travel, select The Sinking Sands, and then take a Magic Carpet ride from the NPC at the Port of Tears. Once there, you should make it your priority to complete the quest Becoming a Resident of Ro so you can obtain the spell Call of Ro that can teleport you directly to the gates of the city.

Travel[]

Maj'Dul is a terraced city, with the rich living higher up and secluded from the the lower slums. Pathways snake around the city connecting trade, travelers, thieves and warriors into a hot melting pot of desert culture. At times, the design of the city can feel maze-like and treacherous, so familiarize yourself with the layout (and dangers) as soon as possible. Should you find yourself woefully lost, traveling back to the upper terrace is often the best way to get your bearings. The nature of this zone's multi-level areas, combined with the warring Courts, make it a dangerous place for anyone below the recommended levels.

The streets are protected by carpet-mounted wizards called Sha'ir. If you've been caught committing an act of violence on a citizen, a message will flash cross your screen warning that you "will be caught for breaking the laws." If you kill the citizen, a new message will appear, "Now you've done it!", and the Sha'ir will attack in waves. Eventually a servant of Mudeef will attack and if you are successful at killing it, the waves will cease.

Also, take care of traveling around Outcasts' Ledge as it is a nest of Dervin criminal activity.

Player Housing[]

Any character can buy housing here after they purchase one of three residency licenses sold by any of the Courts' faction merchants. Maj'dul is not aligned with any of the 'evil' or 'good' cities, making it neutral to the typical alignments and allowing for dual citizenship. To buy a home here you must have sufficient faction with a Court. For more info on the choices here and how to get a home in this city see Housing: Availability by City.
