Overview[]

This is a prelude event to the 22nd expansion for Everquest II - Rage of Cthurath. The date of expansion launch has yet to be announced. This prelude event will start its Phase I on Live servers on September 16th, 2025. Phase II will activate on live servers on October 13th at 12:01AM PDT and run concurrently with Phase I.

Something is very, very wrong in the hills of eastern Antonica. A wound has appeared in the air, as if the fabric of reality has suffered a tear. I've alerted a few mages of my acquaintance to the situation, but I fear the situation is beyond their knowledge or abilities. Whatever it is, I fear it is going to escalate if not attended to soon. I know your reputation, and if it is half accurate, I believe there is a decent chance of stopping this, before the situation grows dire. Elemental Rifts[]

Elemental rifts open in 41 zones, each rift will let out a mini wave of elementals. x4 normal mobs culminating with a more powerful boss-like elemental, after which the rift itself becomes a mob that can be closed (and close it by using a tool received from quest, DO NOT engage in combat with the rift itself, you cannot kill it). Killing each normal elemental spawns x2 Chaotic Elemental Filament, a wandering passive mob, (the 'mini-bosses' spawns x3) which can be 'picked up' and used as a crafting component. These wanderers occasionally give a piece of Rarefied Chaos Materials collection (from Phase I rifts) or From Beyond collection (from Phase II rifts) in addition to the normal filament. Rifts respawn about 4 - 5 minutes after closing. Some rifts have a Flamebearer NPC nearby, he gives repeatable quest Relentless Defender.

Even more rifts opened in Phase II of event, in the same zones with different mobs, but mechanics are the same. They also update the repeatable quest from Flamebearers. Mobs from Phase II rifts occasionally drop Void appearance weapons.

Word of caution: The mini-bosses will cast a decently strong knockback when they are defeated. If you happen to be near a cliff (or there are some red ^ ^ ^'s wandering nearby), you WILL be knocked in that direction if you're not paying attention to your position.

Rift Types[]

Because these rifts open to the Chaotic Planes (random intersections of the Prime Elemental Planes within the cosmic void) they bear the hybridized traits of the prime elements that intersect to create them. Their denizens reflect this.

Fog Rift (Air + Water)

This is the first form of rift the player normally encounters, as it is the kind present in The Direct Approach

Known zones and locations for rifts[]

The levels of mobs coming from each rift can vary by a level or 2 even in the same ring event, depending on zone. They start as low as 3 in Tier 1 zones. You are encouraged to seek out rifts in zones that are level appropriate for your true or mentored level. Elementals 10 levels below you, even if green conning, are not considered a challenge and may not update quests. The same for 'too high' (red) elementals, even if they give XP. Blue, White or Yellow cons will update your quest progress.
