This a very confusing quest as it involves a sub-quest that must be completed before this quest will update.

Notes[ | ]

This is an unlimited repeatable quest. There are four different tradeskill missions offered by Madria Varas and you can complete them as many times as you wish. However, she will only offer you a new quest approximately every hour. The tradeskill zones are persistent instances and you are subject to the minimum duration timers for each instance. In practical terms, this means you can only do each quest once every 90 minutes. One exception is The Shipyard Cove instance, which has a minimum duration of 18 hours (this is most likely an oversight on the part of the developers).

These quests can be completed in a group, but there is no combat and can be done solo.
No harvested materials or fuels are required. Everything you need is provided in the instance.
The Mass Production tradeskill prestige ability can be used to complete this quest quickly.

Quick Start[]

Once you have the quest, talk to Koros at the bar downstairs and purchase 'Mission Stone of the Void' to be transported to the Overlook.
Speak to the balloon conductor to travel to The Palace of the Ancient One.
IMPORTANT: if you were sent here as part of the quest Shadows of the the Betrayed, BEFORE you do anything, speak to an injured raider ( -11, 13, 31 ) and ask about the ethernauts. If you fail to do this, Shadows of the Betrayed will not update and the mystic will not speak to you.
Talk to Tomkin Cogsbottom <Construction Foreman> at ( -19, 13, 15 ) Copy/waypoint -19, 13, 15 and take his subquest. Building a Better Portal.
Talk to Tomkin Cogsbottom AGAIN to receive ten Makeshift tinkered workstation
Pick up the recipe from the podium next to him and scribe it.
Click on the paper next to him and keep Tomkin Cogsbottom's list of items that appears on your screen open, until everything is complete; doing so makes it easier to search for the recipes at each table. The list will show that you need to make 3 of each item. (In reality, you will need 12 of each item because you are required to do the combines four times.) By making 12 you can speed up the entire process.
You must complete the sub-quest Building a Better Portal, or this main quest (Emergency Portal Repairs) will not update.
Gather your materials and craft your items for both quests.
You will NOT receive any updates. The only way to keep track of your progress is to remember (or write down) what you have crafted and what you need to craft.
If you have crafted all the items for Emergency Portal Repairs and didn't get the update, that means you didn't complete the sub-quest Building a Better Portal.

For Crafters Who are Level 95+[]

The following is for crafters who are level 95+
Select Mass Production as a Tradeskill Prestige ability to craft 15 items at a time. (Instead of crafting 3 items 4 times)
Gather all materials:
- 60 metal armor scraps from plate wearing raiders
- 75 damaged jewelry from plate wearing raiders
- 60 strips of previously worn cloth from robe/gi/chain wearing raiders
- 30 scavenged leather armor pieces from robe/gi/chain wearing raiders
- 15 horse meat from dead horse mounts
- 15 dire bear meat from dead dire bear mounts
- 75 void-touched lumber from clickable trees
- 75 void residue from the residue blobs, one harvest each
- 270 void-warped coal from harvestable coal deposits
Use the Makeshift tinkered workstation
Use Mass Production to craft 15 of each of the required items
Turn in the subquest. All items will be removed from your backpack and portal construction will start.
It takes a few minutes for the portal to be built. When it completes, your quest will update. (Unless you did not complete the sub-quest Building a Better Portal)
A treasure chest will drop near Tomkin.

Notes[]

You have the option to complete this subquest a total of 4 times if you choose. Turning it in 4 times is only advantageous if you still need/want the tradeskill XP you get from turning in quests.

Time saving tips for solo and group missions:

It is recommended you complete all the items at once. Completing the subquest does not grant additional tradeskill experience. You are only awarded experience for creating all of the items and completing the quest. There is no advantage to completing the subquest four times.

Because the difficulty of making the items is much greater at lower levels, the ideal group for this special zone is best suited to have at least one artisan from the following tradeskill subclasses: Outfitter, Craftsman, and Scholar.
Within these crafting instances Mass Production, a Tradeskill Prestige ability, or the item The Hand of the Maker can be used to make multiple items at one time. With mass production, these can be made in multiples of 5 or 15 at once. To complete the main quest and the subquest, 12 of each item on Tomkin Cogsbottom's list is required, but making more than needed is considerably fast compared to making each item one at a time and picking up and turning in the subquest in several rounds that asks for multiples of 3.
You'll notice that if you click the list of needed items next to him again, you will see negative numbers for each item, meaning that you have completed all of the items. Sit back and wait; when the portal is rebuilt, the entire quest (including the main quest from the Isle of Mara) will auto-complete. After the auto-completion, a chest will appear in the instance.

All materials (including fuel) are harvested within the zone. The numbers in the parenthesis are the amounts needed if you plan to use Mass Production to craft 15 of each item.

Exquisite Chest[]

After you have completed the subquest within this zone as described above, an exquisite chest also drops near Tomkin Cogsbottom in the zone.
