Lore[]
Darathar is an enforcer for the Ring of Scale, sent to kill Lord Nagafen and Lady Vox for defying Veeshan's Law which prohibits two dragons of opposing elements from mating and creating a prismatic dragon. He manipulates the player into assisting him in stealing one the prismatic eggs created by the union of Nagafen and Vox.
Because a dragon is forbidden to kill another dragon, Darathar was given an artifact called the Harness, which enables him to control the drakota. Darathar was successful using the them to kill Lady Vox, but was unable to kill Lord Nagafen.
Like most dragons, Darathar is capable of assuming human form and appears at several points as The Sage of Ages during the player's journey through the Shattered Lands.
Strategy[]
It is recommended that you pull Darathar into the water, and have casters positioned at maximum range to avoid incurable trauma damage. He will cast a raid-wide stun and heals for 25% of his maximum health three times during the fight, at 75%, 50% and 25% health. This means at 75% health, he will heal to full health. Then at 50% he heals to 75% health, and at 25% he heals back to 50% health. After that point, he will no longer heal himself.
His special attack, Flame of Ages, is an elemental area-of-effect spell which does a high amount of direct damage and has a damage-over-time component. He casts this approximately every 50 seconds. Each member should have elemental cure potions to ensure they can cure themselves in case a healer is unable to cure them immediately.
The self-heals only occur once per instance at each health threshold, not per encounter. For example, if you get Darathar below 50% and then the raid wipes, Darathar will only heal once during subsequent fights. If the raid wipes after taking Darathar to 25% health, he will not heal and stun again in that instance.
See the Talk:Darathar page for more strategies and suggestions for defeating Darathar.
Notes[]
You need to move clockwise around the island to get to where Darathar is waiting. When you first enter the zone, you will see him take flight and fly overhead around the island and then rest at the beach. There are two other minor raid bosses you will encounter:
There are also some x2 raid encounters with orcs and two Guardian of Darathar lizards near the entrance to the beach area. A raid force will be able to clear them easily and move on to Darathar.
Defeating Darathar will award each member of the raid the Harness Harnesser achievement.
