When Mithaniel Marr first enlightened the Frogloks 400 years ago in the time of EverQuest, he did not grant enlightenment to all Frogloks. These still-primitive frogloks did not associate with their uplifted brethren, and for ages were thought to have gone extinct during the events of The Shattering and The Rending.

Kunark, however, was not struck by those events as hard as Antonica, and the primeval frogloks survived there.
