The Droag are powerful arcane creations of the dragons bred to fight and serve unquestioningly for their masters. Through long rituals they have been forged into powerful creatures who worship and exercise the will of their dragon lords -- generally that of Lord Vyemm who emphasizes arcane experimentation or Harla Dar who promises power through faith.
