Have you ever seen the sun rise, its light spreading like over the Butcherblock Mountains like the flames of a forge? We who have not seen this with our own eyes sing the songs of our fathers before us, and weep for the world we cannot know.
Named after the famed dwarven king, Dagnor Butcherblock, this rocky terrace is home to all manners of rugged creatures. Yet none are as infamous as the dwarves, who built their mighty kingdom of Kaladim from within the bowels of the nascent earth. When time and destiny eventually met, the dwarves spread onto the surface where they would come to dominate the surrounding area. They reigned supreme for centuries, serving ever-dutifully their god Brell Serilis. Unfortunately, Butcherblock would be heavily battered and tortured by the events of The Age of Cataclysms, which left the landscape scarred. Coupled with a reduced dwarven presence in the wake of the Grand March, Butcherblock would fall under the control of kobolds, bugbears, and aviaks. Recently, however, dwarves and adventures of all types have begun returning in droves to Butcherblock, most notably The Irontoe Brigade, who seek to reclaim Kaladim.
Geography[]
Butcherblock Mountains is divided into valleys by steep impassable cliffs. Some of the cliff faces can be climbed, and a few of the mountaintops can be explored. Dwarven mines honeycomb the hillsides, and many of the valleys are interconnected by tunnels.
