The Plaguebringer |
Alignment - Evil |
Prophet - Hrath Everstill |
Bertoxxulous, the Plaguebringer, allies with no other god, for he has little use of their idle bickering and futile schemes. Pestilence and decay know no ally, only death, the great equalizer of the cognizant masses. Famine is his sustenance and disease his language. To follow his guidance is to accept that the frail shell you call your body will eventually wither and fade like spoiled fruit fallen from a tree. Knowing this allows you to ascent from your corporal trappings and embrace a truer notion of life and death. Knowledge of this grants one greater power than those entangled in the myopic obsession of carnal matters.
The relationship between life and death is a key issue to be noted within the wisdom of Bertoxxulous' domain. Mortal life is at best a temporary state, destined to wither and abate until at last the blooming flower of death rises from the compost heap that is a fallen creature's defunct remains. Death is the birth of your soul's next chapter and decay is its maturation process. Bertoxxulous has no allies because so many do not fully understand that the cycle of life must end in death. To this end, the followers of Bertoxxulous are simply helping things along. The type of decay caused by Bertoxxulous is a combination of mundane materials combined through alchemy and magical components coalesced together with thaumaturgy.
Followers of Bertoxxulous believe the only truth on Norrath is that everything dies. They view the decay of flesh as a thing of ultimate beauty. The subtle purples of a fresh bruise, the almost iridescent yellow green of an infested pustule, are but a few of the things that his followers relish. It is not surprising that many of his followers pursue the dark art of necromancy, for to them nothing is more desirable than to be surrounded by beings who, even in un-life, continue to rot and decay. Do not take this to mean that his followers are suicidal or seek a quick death. To the contrary, they wish to live long, painful lives, spreading their dark, diseased stain across all of Norrath.
The Plaguebringer appears as a humanoid hunchback draped in tattered, decaying robes. Under his hood can be seen a very handsome face attached to the body of a rotting corpse. He is enemies with Tunare, Rodcet Nife, Karana, Mithaniel Marr, and Rallos Zek. He rules the Plane of Disease, which is dark and damp with geysers of putrid ooze and rivers of pus. The land itself looks, feels and even smells like decaying flesh, and is inhabited by all manner of evil creatures and undead.
