Avatars were removed from the game with the Sentinel's Fate expansion.

For a categorical listing of the avatars of the gods, see Category:Avatar.

Avatars are the Norrathian manifestation of a Deity. Each of the returned gods has an avatar that will occasionally descend to Norrath if enough favor has been collected by worshipers in their name. The avatar will remain on Norrath for 1-3 days or until they are killed. Only one god's avatar can exist on Norrath at a time. There is no announcement or message given when an Avatar appears, so the only way to find out that one has appeared is for someone to stumble on them and report their appearance. Avatars are also the term used to refer to mortals endowed with a god's abilities to act for them during the time the gods went away in lore. Since the gods have now returned, it is unknown what exactly happened to these mortal avatars, suffice to say that they are not the same as these avatars. For example, the mortal Avatar of Tranquility was an old wizard who became a monk, while the Avatar of Tranquility in-game is that of a young girl.

Blasphemy![]

Keep in mind that, once on Norrath, avatars exist in mortal form and can be killed. It is currently believed that the avatars of the gods are among the most difficult encounters of the game. Anything less than a T8 raid force will not stand much of a chance at defeating avatars. They are the will of the gods manifest. The old saying holds true, "Risk vs Reward", and slaying the manifested will of a god is about as risky as it comes.

Try at all costs not to attack your own god's Avatar; dire consequences await you. If choose to attack your chosen god's avatar as part of a raid group, you will be stunned for 9 seconds and will lose all blessings and miracles currently active on your person. If your raid manages to kill the avatar, you will lose 5000 favor points with that deity and divine censure will be applied to you, which remains on your character for 24 hours real time.

While under Divine Censure:

  • you cannot pledge devotion to a new deity
  • you cannot sacrifice items to your original deity
  • you cannot do deity-related quests
  • you cannot buy or use miracles or blessings.

However (and there is always a however), considering that the Phat Lewt dropped by avatars is geared directly to characters that probably are believers of that deity, it is possible to hang outside the raid, wait for the drop, then switch in to collect the item.

Proximity Buffs for Believers[]

If you are a follower of a deity and its Avatar descends, seek it out and approach it. You will receive a limited duration (5 hour) buff of various effects.
